Lighting ceremony kicked off by a short speech from the Tayside radio MC with short greeting from Santa and the mayor before everyone counted down for the switching on of the lights that lighted up the city. The festive spirit then continued throughout the night with unstopping performances by both professionals and local children in numerous places. All the shops were open late in the city with special discounts and offers~ Food stalls were also set up along the high street from highland sweets to buffalo burgers to German sausages. The end of the night was marked by a short display of wonderful fireworks =]
It is very common to have a christmas lighting ceremony that is taken place throughout Britian (possibly all over the world) yet this was the first time I've ever been to one. I was fascinated and overwhelmed by the christmas spirit in the community. So many families were enjoying themselves even though it was a cold night.
I did indeed try a buffalo burger which I must say, is mucho tasty (more Q than beef burgers) |
Also tried a traditional German sausage which was very big and rather whiteish color.. |
lots of shops selling purely christmas gifts n decos |
Group of victorian citizens who acted their roles really well and pretended to be shocked and amazed by the cameras |
Fire juggler, fire eater, circus performer |
Me n my flatmate under the big christmas tree in city center |
Traditional handmade sweets - On the top is the macaroon and the bottom is some flavoured chewy toffee. Both very sweet! >< |
